Japanese Beetles

A tip from Elaine Saple regarding Japanese beetles:

My research suggests Japanese Beetles are most prevalent in our location during the months of June and July.  Also they are attracted to the color yellow plants that smell and taste good.  Further research turned up an environmental formula – one that won’t harm your plants, pets or children.  And I quote, “alternately mix clear dish soap, water, garlic powder and cayenne pepper in a spray bottle and apply it to your plants.   These ingredients change your gorgeous plants from delicious to gross and should keep Japanese beetles from eating them.  You can also use baby powder sprinkled directly on your plants.  As an added benefit, the cayenne pepper makes the leaves taste spicy and will burn the mouths of squirrels and rabbits that may also feast on your plants.”  I did try this mixture and it did work for me!  Who knew?!
