Final resolution reached by the deck committee:
The deck committee voted unanimously on October 8th 2014 and approved by the Board of Directors at our November meeting that as of July 1, 2016 these will be the only deck finishes approved. The intent is to coordinate the look of our community while still allowing individuality. Thanks to Tom Zapalski for coordinating this resolution.
(1) Paint will be Cottonwood #SL3040 by Sherwood Williams
(2) Stain color will be TWP 100 Cedartone (sold at Home Depot and Lowes); the deck stain should be refreshed every three (3) years. A suggested contractor for this work is Restore a Deck, they do approx 30% of the decks in our complex
(3) Composite decking MUST MATCH "Trex color "Tiki Torch: An Alt Mod must be submitted to Herriman for any deck replacement, and if you choose another composite Company other than "Trex"; the choice of color MUST be approved by the board of directors PRIOR to installation..

The Christmas Party attended by 48 residents went off without a hitch, and was enjoyed by all! Hopefully this will be the first of a yearly get together! Thanks Social Committee for all the hard work!
Activities for 2015 are already in the planning stage. Specifics will start to follow shortly, but just to whet your appetites!
The Beef and Beer Dinner in March --
Cinco de Mayo Celebration in May
A Summer Get Together
Community Golf Outing --September 12
Coffee Socials Dates TBD
So you have lots to look forward to in upcoming blogs!!
One final note - Ellen Robertson's enormously busy life requires that she take a break from heading our Social Committee. Ellen's amazing aptitude for organization and her willingness to step up when no one else would must be applauded. She took over (unofficially she always says) when no one else would and revived activities that really make a community meld! So thank you very much for all your time and efforts Ellen, see you at the Beef and Beer dinner!
Jan Losi has taken over Ellen's duties - so we are thanking her in advance!

Canton News:
Just a few things to keep you busy and moving when the cold weather urges you to stay snuggled under a blanket on the couch!
Winter Farmers Market - Feb 8 at the Summit
Valentines Tea - February 11 @ 1 - 3 pm. Join us for an afternoon tea, provided by Victoria’s Tea Salon.Enjoy finger sandwiches, cream scones and desserts. Fee: $18R/$23NR
Silver Striders - You all may be aware, but through the Canton Sr Club (55+) we can join the Silver Striders for $10 a year, which gives us access to the walking track (any time of day) and walking the lazy river twice a week (check the schedule). It's only $1 each time you do it, and it's safe and warm (or wet). A few of us have joined and try to make it a few times in the morning each week. Join us, walk and talk - what could be a better way to exercise!
Also, check out some of the trips on the wall of the Sr Center. This is all new to me, so I'm quite excited! Coming up for instance; "Meshuggah-Nuns", Meadowbrook Theatre April 29; Springtime in Niagara Falls May 7-8, New York City, "Shop Til You Drop", June 26. They all sound like fun!
I've attached the January copy of the Silver Threads Newsletter to the email, just in case you wanted to see all that is available - just amazing.

On a final somber note, we want to acknowledge the passing of two member of our community in the recent months. God Bless them.

George 'Larry' Kresin passed away peacefully at the age of 84. He will be sorely missed by all, but most by his loving mate, Jane Liberi; son, Scott Kresin; daughter, Leslie (Daniel) Offidani. Larry served in the Korean War and was promoted to Lt. Commander before retiring. He also was an avid golfer. He was buried at Arlington Memorial Cemetery.
