It's the time for Japanese beetles to feed and visibly thrive on our flowers and some of our trees. They will continue to proliferate through the end of September, and can cause significant damage - enough to kill the plant or tree.
Please advise Herriman if you have any trees with Beetle infestation that are the responsibility of the Association, as treatment will begin shortly for affected trees.
If plantings or trees are the co-owner's responsibility, the MSU Extension service recommends using Bayer Advanced for Roses /or/ Trees (liquid or granules), or Sevin spray. Bayer liquid immediately will support failing plants but is significantly more expensive than granules.
Beetle traps also are very effective. If this method of control is chosen, it is recommended by the Extension service to spread the dead beetles in the mulch around the affected plantings. The beetles are repelled by their dead carcasses. MSU Ext can be accessed at the following site: http://msue.anr.msu.edu/topic/info/lawn_garden
