Outdoor Planting Reminders

Questions have been asked regarding what's allowed to be planted around our condo.  Here is an excerpt from the Rules, published in 2012, which covers some of the questions.  As a reminder, vegetable and tomato plants are not permitted in the front mulched areas, but can be planted in pots for the patio.  Please check with Herriman if your question is not covered in the Rules.  If you need a copy of them, Marnie is happy to email the document.  Also, if you see something at a neighbor's home that seems to be a violation, remember that they are/will be receiving notification letters.  Don't assume something is approved just because it's there --

If you received a violation letter last fall and have not yet brought your deck or yard into compliance, please take care of the items as soon as possible to avoid further action.

Annual and Perennial Flowers within the Front Mulched Beds:
·         Artificial flowers and plants planted or displayed anywhere outside of unit are not permitted.
·         Flowers, ornamental grasses or small bushes may be added to the front mulched areas or along the mulched area between driveways as long as they are not higher than the current shrubs and bushes.
·         Items may be planted in the mulched beds in front of a unit only. Limit 4 flower pots in any of these colors: beige, tan, brown, green, gray, white, terra cotta or black for use on the front porch or mulched areas.
·         Flowers, grasses and plants must be trimmed to keep them within 36 inches of the ground.
·         Nothing is to be planted in the grass areas and grass may not be planted or removed to change the size of the mulched areas.
·         Anything planted by co-owners is the co-owners responsibility. If the landscaping service mistakenly pulls or cuts flowers or plants, the Association will not replace them.
·         Edging is permitted only by approval via an alt/mod form.
·          Landscaping stones are not permitted in the front flower beds.
·         The Association currently re-mulches every two years.
·         Only mulch which closely matches that used by the landscape company can be added to existing beds by co-owner if desired.
·         No changes in landscaping are to be done outside of front mulch area without using the Alteration/Modification process.
Trees and Evergreens
·         Additional trees and evergreens require approval from the Board of Directors. Submit an Alteration/Modification Request Form with a diagram, type, size etc. to our designated Management Company who will forward to the Board of Directors.
·         If a co-owner gets approval for added trees or evergreens, it is their responsibility to maintain them.
·        Existing trees must not be removed without an approved Alteration/Modification.  If a co-owner removes trees with approval, they must replace them at their expense.
